Who is God?
In Romans 1:19-20 we recognize God’s workmanship through
observation “For what can be known about God is plain to them,
because God has shown it to them. For His invisible attributes,
namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly
perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have
been made. So they are without excuse.” (ESV). We know about God
through the majesty of nature. God is the loving Creator of al things
that exist. God is all powerful, all knowing, sovereign and self-existing. His character never changes. His plans never change. His promises never change. He is all present so He never far off from us. He is faithful, loving, good and holy. He alone can balance judgement and mercy. God exists as the Trinity, in three distinct persons, yet one God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God passionately desires a relationship with us and therefore He continually invites us into a relationship with Him.
Who is Jesus Christ?
God has spoken in the past through the wonder of creation that can be seen all-around us at all times. He has in the past spoken to us through the words of prophets He sent. But, God’s full and final revelation was though Jesus Christ, God’s one and only son. Jesus is fully God and fully human, sent to earth to bring salvation down to man. Jesus was born of the virgin, Mary, lived on the earth teaching and preaching a message of repentance. He died on a Roman cross and was buried. On the third day, He rose again by the power of the Holy Spirit, visited and encouraged His discipled on earth for 40 days before He ascended into heaven. He is now seated at the right hand of God, the Father. He has promised to return at a time of the Father’s choosing.
Hebrews 1:3 says of Jesus “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature, and He upholds the universe by the word of His power. After making purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. (ESV)
Who is the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is the power which raised Jesus from the dead. The Holy Spirit was sent by Jesus to be a comforter to those who believe in Jesus. The Holy Spirit lives in al who believe in Jesus Christ. He teaches, comforts, and gives us the power to live a life pleasing to God. The Holy Spirit bestows spiritual gifts on believers. These gifts work together within the community of believers to foster unity and interconnection.
John 15:26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, He will bear witness about me.” (ESV)
What is the Bible?
The Bible is the words of God written out for us to use as a mean to understand God better and to seek to follow His ways. The Bible is God’s message to humans. It is profitable for helping us understand the things we need to do in order know God better and to seek to follow Him. The Bible is inspired by God and written down by men chosen of God to help us know how to live our lives by God’s unchanging standards. Therefore, the Bible is the Word of God with both the content and the authorship being divine.
Hebrews 4: 12-13 describes the Bible, the recorded word of God in this way: “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no creature is hidden from His sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. (ESV)
Why do humans need God?
We were created by God, in the image of God. This was Gods good plan from the beginning. However, we have a broken relationship with God because of sin, or falling short of all we need to be or do. Sometimes our sin is a result of things we think or actions we take. Sometimes sin is a result of not doing things we need to do. When we fall short of what God created us to be, it causes a separation from God. Because all humans have sinned and have fallen short of the glory God had for us, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ to the earth to redeem us. While we were still sinners, God sent Jesus to die for us. Jesus gave up his life on a cross to save us from that separation from God. Through our belief in Jesus , we are able to enjoy a right relationship with God. The relationship with God that sin destroyed was made possible through Christ’s death and resurrection. Through faith in Jesus and nothing else, we are made right with God and can be reconciled to Him.
What is my personal story about my relationship with God?
From birth, my parents and grandparents prayed with me and spoke about God. I recognized His presence from an early age as He revealed Himself to me. One Easter morning, my daddy asked if I knew what made today a special day. Dressed in my new dress, white gloves and shiny shoes, I believed I knew the correct answer. I thought the new clothes were what made the day special. However, instead, he then explained that Easter is because of Jesus, God’s son who rose from the grave. He talked about our sin and how our falling short of what God wants for us separated us from God. But, he also said that God had a plan to redeem all who were willing to accept His plan. He voiced a prayer and I made a decision to follow God’s plan. It made sense to me as a child. I knew God existed and He heard my prayers, and if this was His plan, I wanted to follow it. At that point, I accepted the grace of Jesus Christ. It is a lifelong pursuit of following Christ, drawing closer to Him and becoming Christ-like. God desired a personal, lifelong close relationship with me and He pursued it to the point that He sent His one and only Son to earth to die on the cross to bring salvation to me. He wants that same relationship with you, too.
